A few days ago the one president whom I didn’t agree with everything but whom I respected and supported because of his convictions went on the morning show and answered a question from the host ML.
THESE ARE NOT EXACT QUOTS:
Mr. President the audience would like to know why the victims of hurricane Katrina be it from MO, LA or TX why do they have to pay all or some of the aid back when we pumped billions in Iraq and they are not required to pay back any dollar amount?

Bush responds; The Iraqi people have paid dearly (or something like that) with so many lives so many casualties….etc.

This is where I think ML is an idiot because he did not continue to ask him “How about our casualties…MR. Freaking President…. how about so many American lives lost in the war and at home, after Katrina…what about those casualties?????

Who is ML?

I think it astounding that I could have missed this had it not been for you talking about it.

Please provide a source for your story. A transcript, a link to a news article, something.

I know G.W. logic is flawed, but it's astounding his handlers didn't coach him better against this faux paux.

Interesting question. The president doesn't have to answer to his own country as a lame duck but if the international community coughs at one of our policies he sends a multi-billion dollar cough drop because he is concerned about the "New Iraq". Poor people have always been there, not his fault.

Different solutions for different situations. The assistance you give to a three year old is a lot different from the assistance you give to a sixteen year old.

It sounds to me like Bush is giving the people of Louisiana credit for being responsible adults, hardworking and committed partners in our national project, fully capable of doing their fair share.

You make it sound like New Orleans is some failed third-world state with no hope and no future, ground under the heel of a local despot. I, and the President, have a much higher view of, and set a much higher standard for, our fellow Americans.

Plus, New Orleans and Louisiania are both democracies. Who else should pay for the mess, if not the people responsible?

In Iraq, this means deposing Saddam Hussein by force if necessary and putting him on trial for his crimes. In America, it means that the people of New Orleans pay to clean up New Orleans.

good to know someone's on their side...considering the effort their responsible, hardworking adult insurance companies are expending to avoid paying claims. then there's the lil matter of that new federal bankruptcy legislation enacted by their responsible, hardworking adult
congressional partners.

it's not as if the administration isn't planning to, in effect, nationalize & socialize iraq's oil at some point, distributing the profits equally to whichever citizens are still alive. actually i don't mean to be too critical of that plan. if their government should--at some point in the future--award itself control over the tigris and euphrates without funding its own operations, omar and fatima doe can chip in some of their free oil drachmas to pay for the work themselves.
